There isn't a party in Abruzzo without Confetti: weddings, communions, but also graduations and anniversaries are celebrated since ancient times with this dolcetto.The candy has a in fact a very ancient history that begins already in the roman times, when before sugar was imported from America, the almonds was enveloped with a mixture of honey and flour. The composition ‘modern’ confetti instead was born in 1400 in Abruzzo, in Sulmona, italy to be precise, where it is still present in the most ancient Italian factory of confectionary.Currently the confetti can be of different colors and different flavors: classic almond avola white sugar or colored, with hazelnut and chocolate, but also with pistachios, pine nuts, cherries, coconut, coffee, lemon...
The Confetti are the emblem of the union of the couple, symbolized by the union of the two halves of the almond are held together by a layer of sugar. Traditionally, they are given by the bride and groom after the wedding cake, and always an odd number: 5 sugared almonds represent health, fertility, and wealth, 3 confetti symbolize the couple and their first child, 1 candy, instead, refers to the uniqueness of the event.
